Our outreach has reached up to 60 million people, and we have been featured on CBS, Politico, ABC, and Newsweek. We are now looking to expand our impact globally, with plans to launch our programs in India, bringing our community-centered approach to new regions in need. Position Summary:
The Legal Coordinator will play a critical role in overseeing the legal aspects of Bright Mind’s operations in India. This includes navigating the legal framework for establishing and operating Bright Mind India (BME India), ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations, and supporting the management team with legal documentation and contracts. This role will also be involved in working on intellectual property protection, drafting and reviewing agreements, and liaising with legal authorities. The coordinator will assist with setting up BME India’s legal infrastructure and ensuring that the organization’s programs and activities comply with Indian and international legal standards.

Position Title: Legal Coordinator (India)
Position Type: Volunteer (Unpaid)
Time Commitment: Minimum 15 hours per week
Location: Open (Anywhere in India)
Eligibility: Undergraduate students and above
Key Responsibilities:
- – Legal Compliance: Support the legal team in ensuring the legal structure of BME India complies with Indian laws, including registration, taxes, and foreign donations.
- – Legal Documentation: Assist in drafting, reviewing, and finalizing contracts, agreements, and other legal documents for BME India’s operations.
- – Licensing & Permits: Help with obtaining necessary legal permits and licenses for setting up BME India’s operations, including FCRA registration, company incorporation, and any other required legal clearances.
- – Advisory: Provide legal advice on matters related to local laws and regulations, ensuring that BME’s operations in India are fully compliant.
- – Coordination: Liaise with local legal experts, government officials, and legal consultants to navigate the regulatory landscape of India.
- – Intellectual Property: Assist in securing intellectual property rights for BME’s initiatives, including trademarks, copyrights, and patent protection as needed.
- – Legal Research: Conduct research on various legal issues related to the nonprofit sector, foreign investments, volunteer laws, and more.
- – Legal Reporting: Maintain legal records, track key legal milestones, and support reporting efforts to ensure compliance with the legal framework in India.
- – Training Support: Assist in organizing legal awareness training sessions for team members and volunteers, ensuring they understand their legal obligations.
Skills:
- – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with legal professionals, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
- – Strong research abilities to conduct legal research on Indian laws and nonprofit regulations.
- – Attention to detail for reviewing and drafting legal documents and contracts.
- – Familiarity with legal software tools for document management and communication (e.g., Google Workspace, Zoom, or similar tools).
- – Problem-solving ability to navigate complex legal challenges and find solutions for the setup and operation of BME India.
- – Team collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with both local and international teams.
- – Experience with legal documentation or legal coordination is a plus, but not essential.
