Tell People Where You Are Going (Quick Tips)

Even though you will have at least one person with you when doing Street Care volunteering, you always want to let someone else know where you’re going. It’s easy these days to stay connected through cell phones and know that help is only a call away, but in this circumstance, telling another person your plans is the best way to be on the safe side.

It’s an easy call to make  a simple, “Hi, I want to let you know that I’ll be out on the street with a friend today helping those in need.” Then tell them the name of the neighborhood. “We are leaving now and should be back in three hours”.

Doing so can serve two purposes at once. It will help you stay safe, and it can spark interest and create an opening to invite others to join you in the future. Street Care is built on the impact of individuals, and interactions like this really help. Once you’ve finished your outreach for the day, tell your contact that you’re safe back at home.

    – Tell someone where you are going and how long you’ll be out.

    – Telling others increases safety and sparks interest.

    – Inform your contact when you’re back home.
